Testing 1... 2... 3

I'm testing this site out while I'm still in Baton Rouge... I'll be using this space to keep a journal of my experiences living in Yokosuka, Japan. I hope that I can update it frequently with pictures and descriptions of our adventures so that I can stay in touch easier with everyone back in the states.

And the adventure is about to begin! We leave in less than 2 weeks, and it still doesn't seem real.

So I guess I'll start with the basic facts ---- Yokosuka is a town on the Muira Peninsula in the Kanagawa Prefecture. It is sheltered in a bay about 48 miles south of Tokyo on the Pacific Ocean side of Japan. Adam will be working on a ship, which means he will be at sea often. We don't know yet whether we will live on base or off base. But we have a place to stay when we get there, and we will hopefully figure out our living situation within a month of arriving.

Here is a map of where Yokosuka is in the world:

I've had a lot of travel adventures in my life, but this one is definitely the most extreme! I'm excited, nervous, happy and sad. There is a lot to do before we go, and I've got a lot of mixed emotions about the whole thing. I've heard from other Navy people that being stationed in Japan one of the best experiences they've had in the Navy, but of course there are so many reasons to be frightened of doing this.

So there is a lot running through my head right now, but tonight I'm just going to take a minute look at where we just left and where we are now before thinking about where we are going...

Here is a shot of one of our last nights in Oak Harbor, WA, where we just spent the last 2 years:

And here is a shot of life here in Baton Rouge, LA, where we have been staying with family the last several weeks:

It's already been a wild summer! I'm really glad I had the chance to come home for an extended visit before leaving the country.
